Discourse Part 1
I really thought Descartes was clever calling his work a 'fable', telling everyone that this was not a how to guide that should be followed by everyone, but a story of how he came to certain conclusions. It seems like a very nice way to distance himself from a lot of the upcoming statements of fact that he was going to be making that might have angered some of the 'authorities' at the time, aka. church, governments, etc.

it is also a good way to protect himself from future critics. he takes a very systematic approach to everything and always checking himself. i think this is the best to get answers. there is always time to figure out the improtant things, not like others philosophers who make you accept alot before you can understand their thoughts
i too agree with Descartes and his saying that this is a fable, because they are not meant for us following it blindly, but it was for the purpose of our challenging them.
